3 Amazing Nunchuck Tricks For Beginners

Nunchucks

Just bought your first ever plastic foam nunchucks? Don’t worry, we have got you covered by teaching you three very simple nunchuck tricks that you can learn within a matter of minutes regardless of how good you are at spinning nunchucks. Let’s get nunchucking!

Downward Switch Pass

Starting things off with the first move, we have the downward switch pass. In this move you will be using your thumb in order to allow the nunchucks to rotate past each other switching sides.

Start out by holding on to both of your nunchucks and front grips so if you stick out your thumbs you’re pointing the chain part of the nunchuck and not the ends. From here, allow the nunchucks to be positioned slightly above where you normally hold them-so hold them slightly higher up because it will be needing momentum in order to perform this move.

Allow your nunchucks to drop slightly and use this momentum for the transition. What you do is you bring your thumb of one hand to the middle so it’s on the chain part of the nunchuck, as the nunchucks fall, you twist your thumb so that the nunchucks rotate past each other so instead of colliding nunchuck rotate past each other going downwards.

Once the nunchucks have moved past each other allow your hand to slide back outwards to grab the nunchuck in a front grip yet again with a twist of your thumb at the right moment so that the nunchucks rotate past each other without losing too much momentum.

Cross Pass

The next very simple move is the cross pass. In this move what you’ll be doing is transitioning the nunchuck from one hand to the other hand.

For this move start up a holding on your nunchucks with one hand in a front grip yet against that you’re pointing to the chain with your thumb, then what you’d want to do is you want to rotate the nunchuck so that it swings downwards in front of your body.

This is important because this will put you in the right position in order to grab it with your other hand so make sure that you’re holding on your nunchuck and that it is spinning downwards in front of your body and upwards off to the side of your other hand in front of your body with your thumb pointing downwards and your facing off to the side of you.

This will allow the Nunchuk to rotate into your hand as it is spinning so with your one hand in this position in front of your body and your other hand swinging the nunchuck so that it is swinging downwards in front of your body.

Rotate the nunchuck that you’re swinging in your hand and grab onto that nunchuck. From here all you have to do is release the nunchuck that you were originally holding on to so that the nunchuck is now in the opposite hand in a back grip.

Double Flip

Final move that we will be teaching you today is called the double flip. In this move what you’re doing is you’re holding on to both ends of the nunchucks with one hand and are performing a sort of wrist roll but without using the chain.

All that you have to do for this move is allow the nunchucks to rotate so that they go upwards off to the side and downwards in front of your body so you want the nunchucks to rotate in the direction of that hand and if you’re using your other hand you still want them to go downwards in front of your body and upwards off to the side.

So from here use the momentum from the swing in order to allow the nunchucks to rotate together across the back of your hand and back into your open hand.

That is the key to this move. What you want to have happen is that the nunchucks rotate across the back of your hand, so using the momentum you’ll release the nunchuck as they begin to tilt and allow them to rotate around the back of your hand allowing you to grab the nunchucks as they spin back around.

You’ll most likely be holding on to them a bit farther down after you’ve completed this move.

Hopefully you have learnt something today. Have fun with your foam nunchucks!
